As a team it’s become really important to us to give back to the community we live and work in. In the past you’ve seen our efforts for fundraising for breast cancer research, volunteering at United Way, food drives, and things like local sports team sponsorships.
For Earth Day this year we partnered with the Riverside Park Conservancy to work on spring cleanup at Riverside Park in New London. The size and uses of the park have changed over the years and it could be argued that it has been somewhat forgotten about by many but this hidden gem boasts 18 acres of public access land still enjoyed by many New Londoners. Some of these New Londoners have organized to work together to bring the park back to it’s fullest potential.
“In 2011, a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations came together in support of Riverside Park, holding clean-ups, community gatherings, and recreational and cultural events in the park and its surrounding neighborhood. Recently, the City of New London has renewed its commitment to maintaining the park, improving access, clearing underbrush and opening up the panoramic views of the Thames River.”
For anyone who has worked for an organization where we have volunteered before or been there volunteering while we’re there, you know that when the Koz Team shows up to volunteer we work hard to make as big an impact as we can before we have to go. We cleaned up (lots of) garbage and worked with two Conservancy members to clean up and mulch the garden around the main entrance. The place had a nice face lift by the time we had to leave but there is so much more work to be done!
If you’re interested in learning more about the park or volunteering, Check out the Conservancy website. Next time you’re in New London swing by Adelaide Street and Crystal Ave and enjoy some time at Riverside Park!
Happy Earth Day!
