10 Reasons We Don't Use Color Bands on Braces

Join Us in the fight against breast cancer!

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.  To do our part in helping to raise awareness and help find a cure, we donate to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.

Over the past few weeks and around this time each year, the Kozlowski Orthodontics offices have been full of the color pink and talk of breast cancer awareness — like many businesses who make efforts to fundraise for this important cause each October. Breast cancer awareness is something that we have been passionate about for years, between our signature “Go, Fight, Cure” t-shirts that we sell to raise money for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, and our newer efforts including selling custom made pink sports mouthguards and hosting a “Wear It Pink” Day in our office. This cause hit even closer to our hearts this year when our team member, Krista, found out that her beloved Aunt Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago.

Right in the depths of our fundraising efforts, we met Michelle, a new patient who came to our office in search of a more confident smile. She noticed our posters advertising our t-shirts and mentioned that she worked with the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, and liked what we were doing. In discussing this with Dr. Mike, Michelle shared that Terri Brodeur, the inspiration for this incredible foundation, was actually her sister. We were so moved as Michelle shared about what the foundation and increasing breast cancer awareness means to her and felt even more motivated to help.

Michelle was kind enough to share with us the speeches that her niece and nephew, Terri’s children, gave at the 14th Annual Walk Across Southeastern Connecticut Event, held on October 5th. This year the event was bigger than ever and included a new 5K portion, in addition to the full marathon, half marathon, and quarter marathon events. Terri’s daughter, Melanie, shared a deeply heartfelt speech about her mother and the event, and we have included the video here for you to see. Terri’s son, Sean Brodeur talks about his heartbreak over his mother’s death 14 years ago and how he honors her every year by walking in the annual marathon in October and raising money for cancer research.
